History of the Breed The Bleu du Maine originated in 19th century France in the regions of Maine & Anjou by crossing a local breed with the Dishley Leicester & Wensleydale. The breed spread throughout France, notably into Brittany, the Centre, South East & the Ardennes from where exports to Germany & Belgium began. In 1982 there was the first commercial import of Bleus into the U.K.
